The Commons

The Arts Council of Greater New Haven fosters creative culture in the city, from its arts paper to events like Make Music Day. In 2017, Breakfast Lunch & Dinner came up with an event concept for the Arts Council. We called it The Commons.

It was a series of gatherings for New Haven’s creative community. We had three goals for the project: To build community among artists and people interested in the arts, to make the Arts Council’s opportunities more accessible to artists in the area, and to create a feedback loop between artists and the Arts Council, allowing creatives to engage with the Arts Council’s staff. This way, artists could voice their input on programming and allocation of resources.

Over a period of [xx], we executed the plan as a monthly event in New Haven arts and community hubs like the Bregamos Theater, Lotta Studio, and the Bradley Street Bicycle Co-op. Each night had art demonstrations, music performances, food, drinks, and good conversation. You can read coverage of The Common’s second gathering here.
